Guinness World Record Attempt

Stephen Shanabrook, 24, physical therapy technician of Plano, Texas will attempt the Guinness World Record of the Longest Marathon Ten-Pin Bowling.  The current longest tenpin bowling marathon world record is held by Stuart Ridley, 32, of New Zealand who bowled for 122 hours straight at Strike Entertainment Centre in September 2009.   For each hour that Stephen bowls, he’ll receive a 5 minute break, which can be accumulated.  He plans on using the majority of the “down time” to sleep.

The world record attempt will take place at Plano Super Bowl in Plano, Texas, during July 12-17, 2010.  Stephen will be situated on lanes 1 and 2 during the entire attempt.  Plano Super Bowl is open 24 hours so the attempt was a natural fit for this location.   If people want to bowl beside Stephen on lane 1 they have a special for $25 which gets you 2 hours of bowling and shoe rental.  Of the $25 fee, $15 of it will go towards the charity of your choice.  Additional lanes in the house will be open for bowling and donations are accepted throughout the attempt.  For more information on how you can donate or attempt this world record contact Mark Grimes at Plano Super Bowl at (972) 881-0242 or email mark_grimes@planosuperbowl.com

The purpose of the world record spawned from a simple idea during league bowling.  He and some friends wondered what some of the world record attempts were in bowling.  He did some research on bowling world records to see if he could individually accomplish them or as a team.  The longest tenpin bowling marathon record seemed like the most reachable of all those found.  If all goes as planned Stephen should break the World Record sometime on Saturday afternoon, July 17, 2010.

Stephen Shanabrook's custom bowling ball to be used during the World Record attempt July 12-17, 2010.

The event is sponsored by Brunswick, OnTheBallBowling.com and KR Strikeforce along with a few local companies.  A Brunswick Slingshot bowling ball was donated to be used during the event and OnTheBallBowling.com custom bowling ball was donated to commemorate the attempt.  Stephen also decided to add charities to the attempt because he didn’t want the whole event to be about himself.  He felt that if he could do something that he really enjoyed in bowling while also helping to raise money to a variety of charities then it was a win-win for everyone, even if he doesn’t break the record.  The charities that he is supporting are the Susan G. Komen, Second Chance SPCA of Plano, Boys and Girls Club of Plano, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Plano City House.  To donate to the cause please contact Plano Super Bowl at (972) 881-0242.
